THE MEDIATING ROLE OF LEARNING ANALYTICS TO IMPROVE STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE


Abstract:

Recent indicators of the success of every collegegraduate still refer to the cumulative academic achievementindex. The era of disruption of the digitalization of educationhas posed different challenges and problems to universities toimprove student academic performance. The objective of thisstudy was to determine the extent of influences andrelationships of antecedent factors, including soft skills andlearning analytics, the intervening variables in improving thisperformance. This study engaged 203 active students takingcourses in the fifth and sixth semesters of universities inPontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The research was inthe form of surveys. Questionnaires were distributed onlinethrough Google Form. SEM-PLS Method was conducted forthe analysis. Results show strong influences and relationshipsbetween academic, emotional learning and soft skills throughlearning analytics in improving student academic performance.Furthermore, the negative influences of soft skills haveinsignificance on this performance. Lastly, a socio-economicfactor is irrelevantly linked to learning analytics and studentacademic performance. All of these findings indicate thatacademic, personal, socio-economic antecedents are no longerrelevant to previous research.
